If you have ever been to a dog park… Let me start by saying I love the dog park. Thank you San Diego for providing such a beautiful place to take my partner in crime, Taco Danger Tuesday. He enjoys the ability to roam as he pleases and smell as many butts his nose desires. He is allowed to stand… Read more →
I know it is considered uncouth to discuss politically driven subjects. But I have always been a rebel anyway. And there is a subject that makes me want to grind my teeth and shake my fist every time I read an article discussing this. And instead of writing a negative angry letter about why I think it is completely unfair… Read more →
Growing up we were taught to not speak to strangers, right? Clearly any adult trying to spark up a conversation with a 9 year old was up to no good. And I think this is a great rule of thumb for certain situations. However, instilling fear into anyone’s mind in order to teach a lesson is typically not the best route. I think it is about time we stop ignoring the person sitting next to us. Say hello to your neighbor you see every day. Maybe even say more then hello. Invite them into your house for coffee, or a drink, or GASP, even dinner. What a world that would be.
I recently found out I have been labeled “The Adopter” by a good friend of mine. This name, without a doubt, plays well in my life in all aspects. But what she was referring to was my habit of making friends with people at bars and then inviting them to continue to hang out in our group to take on whatever shenanigans the night might tempt us with. Which typically ends up being a group of us at my house drinking on my stoop.
(This is a picture from a wine tasting night I hosted after creating a group on Facebook called “Wine & Dine SD- Girls only club” and had a bunch of STRANGERS over to my home to reach out and meet new women in our city. I mean…it was one of the best nights I have had in a long time. But let me tell you, the noise level of that many women in one house, slightly intoxicated, is pretty ear-piercing. My poor neighbors!)
Anyway, I feel like it is so easy to get into a routine. You have the same friends, and go to the same bar, and talk about the same things. Think about how many people you pass a day without acknowledging their existence. Now think about how many opportunities you had to make a difference in their day. My mom use to pay for the person-behind-us-in-the-Starbucks-drive-through-line’s coffee. It was a small but beautiful gesture. Even though she didn’t directly get to know that person. She made a difference in their day. And I have carried that spout of stranger love with me my whole life.
In such a big world often times we get lost and find our selves lonely. As a consequence we don’t know where to begin when it comes to making friends. Or you might be new to the city and don’t know anyone. I have made so many friends by talking to the person sitting alone…inviting them to lunch sometime…Bringing them around my lovely friends and embracing them as one of our own. It is a part of life that so easily gets looked past. And I am here to say, “Fuck that shit, lets own this town and make everyone feel loved!” Too many days we spend bogged down with negativity. I want to inspire you to be someone’s friend. At the end of the day we all just want to be loved in one way or another right???!!!
So, here is to changing lives in a very simple way. This is my first blog post, and I wanted it to just EXUDE positivity. And that is what I will continue doing with each post. If you enjoyed what I wrote about feel free to comment and write how you feel. This is all about open communication and talking about the random things I have pop in my head. My infinite love for humans and creatures inspires me to want to show and teach others that it is something they too can embody. I hope you all agree. I look forward to writing my new post! If you have a subject you would like to be written about please feel free to suggest it! Enjoy your evening. I know I will! Goodnight <3
